|The month of August ..
||[Aug. 26th, 2014|10:26 am]
July 25 was my last day at work before starting my vacation.
July 28 - we decided to visit the newly opened Chuck E Cheese's as we were thinking about taking Stavros and his cousins there on his birthday. I was contemplating doing taking a party package but found it really expensive per child .. so visiting there beforehand confirmed that Stavros would be just as happy walking-in for his birthday as he would be if we took the more expensive package. We got there at 10:00 a.m. and within the hour the place was packed! We purchased the highest priced package for tokens (136 tokens) as we knew we would need them for Stavros' birthday. We stayed there for about four hours, and had pizza for lunch.
July 29 - Public Holiday (Eid). In the evening, Lisi called and invited us to go with them to the Chaguaramas Boardwalk .. when we got there (around 5:00 p.m.) the place was packed with people, so we stayed only a short while. After, we went for burgers around the Queen's Park Savannah.

July 30 - Although I was on vacation, I went to the office for the day as we had to meet with an employee to deal with an issue at 8:00 a.m., and there was an important staff meeting at 10:00 a.m. regarding the move to our new location.
August 3 - We celebrated our 18th Wedding Anniversary. Well .. "celebrated". The plan was for Othon and Stavros to go buy pizza and bring home, but Stavros begged me to go with them. We thought since Ruby Tuesday has Kids Eat Free on Sundays, we would do that instead once Lisi's boys could go with us -- you know, to get our money's worth. lol This was a last minute decision and Lisi was already out with her boys so they couldn't go with us, so we decided to go with our initial plan of pizza. Since Stavros begged me to go with them, and it was already late, I tied my hair up in a bun (which was not washed for 4 days!), slapped on some lip gloss and we went to Pizza Boys .. so that's how we spent our anniversary.
August 4-8 - I don't remember what we did for these days .. nothing significant for sure. I probably caught up on my TV shows and watched movies. Oh, on August 6 we went to the Greek-Australian guy's house for a visit (John), then we went to IMAX to purchase tickets for the following week. August 8 I baked cupcakes for Stavros' pre-birthday celebration the next day. Brandon and Andrew came over for a while in the afternoon. I think my period came on August 5.
August 9 - We had Stavros' pre-birthday celebration. We had invited his entire class to join us for lunch at Mario's Pizzeria, in all about 25 students. At the time we got there, we had confirmation from 5 children. In the end, 3 of those who confirmed attended, and 2 others who did not confirm also attended. So we had a pretty decent turn out for the birthday lunch. We got there at 11:00 a.m., and by 3:00 p.m. we left so the children had quite some time to play and eat. Stavros' friends from school who attended were Xavion, Larry, Rianna, Lorenzo, Nathaniel, and then Stavros' friend Elvaldo from Science Camp also attended.
After the birthday lunch, Brandon and Andrew came over and spent the entire afternoon/evening with us -- Stavros thoroughly enjoyed having them over two days in a row!
August 10 - We had another pre-birthday celebration and a late anniversary celebration and went to Ruby Tuesday, taking with us ALL the boys from Matthew down to Zachary. Fortunately we didn't have to pay for four of their meals (just drinks), though the bill was still pretty high. We all had such a great time, Stavros especially with his imitation of "Squidward Tentacles". Matthew does not hang out with us much anymore since he's grown up so I am glad he accepted our invitation to dinner. After dinner we went to the nearby McDonald's and had ice cream sundaes for dessert. That night I waited until Stavros was asleep and then wrapped all his gifts!

August 11 - Stavros 8th Birthday! Yay! We all woke up at 7:30 a.m. and waited for the next 5 minutes before wishing Stavros Happy Birthday (he was born at 7:35 a.m.) with lots of hugs and kisses (and tears on my part!). He was so happy being awake and in bed with us. Then Stavros opened the gifts I had wrapped the night before :-
- Aeromax 2000 Glow Toy Parachute
- Syma S107/S107G R/C Helicopter with Gyro-Red -- which he absolutely loved because he thought we would not ever buy one for him again (after the last two were destroyed within a day of giving him -- so far this one still works!)
- LEGO Movie 70801 Melting Room
- LEGO City Motorcycle 60000 which he already had
- LEGO Creator 7346 Seaside House
- Geomag Color Variety Game Set, 120-Piece Set
Our plan was to go to Chuck E Cheese's at 10:00 a.m. and eventually have lunch there. Andrew had to go to the hospital in the morning, so Dad was bringing him and Lisi and we would meet them there. We got to CEC at 9:55 a.m. and waited for them to open, and for Dad to arrive. While we were waiting, one customer went inside and shortly after came out and told us there was no electricity! Bummer. We decided we would not bother waiting as we didn't know how long it would be for electricity to return, and called Dad to turn around and meet us at home. When we got home we tried to figure out what should we do -- asked the boys what they wanted to do and we decided to go back to Mario's Pizzeria in El Dorado. When we got there the play area was closed for maintenance! We called the branch in St. Augustine and got the same response - closed for maintenance! So we called McDonald's and they said their play area was open, so we decided to go there .. but first we passed by Massy Stores and bought cake (since Stavros wanted THEIR cake with frosting) and ice cream, dropped the items off at home, and then headed to McDonald's -- quite a bit of driving around that morning! By the time we got to McDonald's it was already lunch time. The boys played, ate their Happy Meals, and played some more until it was 2:30 p.m. We all went home, sang Happy Birthday to Stavros, cut the cake and had ice cream. Afterwards, the boys played outside until it was time for Brandon and Andrew to go home.
In Stavros' words -- it was the best birthday ever. :)

August 12 - we lazed around the house for most of the day until it was time to go to the airport. Lisi, Reynold, Brandon and Andrew left for New York. They planned to stay there for a few days then drive down to Orlando, over nighting in Virginia and Georgia. They are actually returning from their two-weeks vacation tonight! After we left the airport, we went to Trincity Mall and had pizza at Pizza Boys.
Happy because .. PIZZA!
August 13 - We went to IMAX to see Guardians of the Galaxy. We had two complimentary tickets to see any show, and a gift certificate for 1 adult ticket .. so all we had to do was pay for Stavros and 4 of us went. After the movie was over (started at 12:35 p.m.) we went to Wendy's for lunch and then to collect some books for Jesiah.
August 14 - We headed to Fun Station for some fun. :) Both Othon and I had some free tokens to collect plus they decided to give us some more complimentary tokens to use -- and between the two of us we didn't have to buy any tokens for the rest of the day! Well, except for Stavros and Jesiah to go on the bumper cars, and for Stavros and Zachary to go on the bouncy castle which required a different type of token. Stavros fell while on the bouncy castle and hurt his head so only spent 5 minutes out of the 20 there. We all played a lot of Air Hockey as it is Stavros' favourite game there. And Stavros was super happy that he was tall enough to drive a bumper car by himself (he was actually about 1 inch too short, but they still let him drive since it really was just him and Jesiah and no one else at the time).
August 15 - We finally made it back to Chuck E Cheese's and used the 96 tokens that remained from the first time we went. We also had pizza for lunch there. Stavros met Chuck E Cheese and got free tickets 3 times (lol). On the way home, we visited the Temple in the Sea as we saw the sign and decided to drive and find it. When we were leaving there, the rain began and we all got wet! Fun!

Happy because .. PIZZA!

August 16-19 - We went no where on those days. After having been out every day for more than a week, I just wanted to get some rest before heading back out to work!
August 20-26 - Back to work!
August 22 - Stavros went to the zoo with Jesiah and his family. Othonas picked them up there, then came for me and we all went to meet Adepeju and her family. The plan was to go to Pizza Boys in Maraval, but when we got there it was closed for renovations. We ended up going to the nearby KFC (since we had not seen Adepeju and her family for about 2 years and did not want to miss the opportunity). Later, we went to her office and hung out outside eating ice cream while the children played football.
August 23 - Jesiah's 13th Birthday. Othonas took him, Stavros and Zachary to McDonald's for lunch. Then Jesiah was going out with his family to Pizza Hut and they invited Stavros to go with them.
August 25 - Stavros went with Jesiah and his family to his new school to collect some books, then they went to Long Circular Mall. They bought a small chess set for him as a birthday gift.
August 26 - TODAY .. I'm at work but it's my last day until next week. Othonas, Stavros and Jesiah are coming to pick me up after work and we are going to see Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles at MovieTowne. Then tonight Lisi and her family are returning from their vacation and Othonas will pick them up at the airport at 11:20 p.m. Stavros is super excited that they are returning because he missed spending time with them .. but most of all because they are bringing his brand new Nintendo Wii U 32GB Mario & Luigi Deluxe Set for him along with some games. This was his main birthday gift which I ordered and had sent to Uncle Deoraj in NY and Lisi collected it when she went (doing this saved me a lot of money to ship it home).
During the month of August we ate out for quite a number of days, spending a lot of money on food. We also spent a lot on Stavros' birthday, whether it was on gifts or going out somewhere, so our savings has depeleted quite a bit. However, I expected that this month we would have spent a lot so I am not feeling a sense of despair .. lol. I should be able to pay the credit car in full before the month ends .. and I am so thankful to God that despite the fact that Othonas is still not working, we are able to give Stavros a fun and happy birthday, and have him enjoy his vacation away from school. I expect that every August will be a high expense month, just like for Christmas.
I am on vacation from tomorrow until September 1. On September 2 school re-opens and Stavros will be back in school, while I am back at work. The next month is going to be hectic, packing up and moving offices. It will also be a very emotional time for myself and my co-workers, but more on that in a separate entry.
Pictures in this entry were taken will cell phone cameras.
